Coronation Street confirms no early ITVX release for key murder episode this week

Soap fans switching on ITVX tomorrow morning will be bitterly disappointed, as the conclusion of Coronation Street’s ‘murder week’ isn’t being uploaded early.

At least, it won’t be uploaded until it airs on ITV1 that evening at 8.30pm. The reasoning behind it is to unite the nation in front of their screens to find out which resident has perished.

Since October 2024, at 7am each day, the broadcaster has added the latest instalments of Corrie and Emmerdale to their streaming service – giving those wanting a slice of the action 13 hours earlier than usual. It came amid changes in viewing habits, something which EastEnders had adopted some years before.

At the time, Craig Morris, managing editor of ITV channels and ITVX said: “The positive response when we made the soaps available at 7am during the Euros and the Olympics shows that audiences want to choose when to watch their favourite Soap.

“Now you can choose when to enjoy your daily dose of drama – whether during the morning commute, over lunch or at a time that suits you each evening.”

While tomorrow’s murder was glimpsed during a flash-forward in February, a series of flashbacks this week detail everything happening to those who are knocking at death’s door, while the other residents are celebrating with the Connor-Swains in Underworld.

The potential victims are, of course, Megan Walsh, Jodie Ramsey, Carl Webster, Theo Silverton and Maggie Driscoll.
So far we’ve seen Theo (James Cartwright) close in on husband Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) whisk Carl (Jonathan Howard) off in his car, and Jodie (Olivia Frances Brown) meet with a mysterious face from her past.

Today’s instalment sees a deadly confrontation between Megan (Beth Nixon) and Maggie (Pauline McLynn) atop the Weatherfield Precinct walkway. Will one of them fall to their deaths?

Exact details about the climax are being kept under wraps, but Radio Times can reveal that Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) will be caught in the crossfire of Todd and Theo’s game of cat and mouse, while Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) witnesses a brutal home invasion.

Ronnie takes matters into his own hands, and Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) stumbles across the body.
