Caught?! Coronation Street’s Summer makes a desperate airport escape as police close in! ✈️
Someone needs to have a word with Coronation Street’s Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) and tell her that running away in the middle of a murder investigation will make her look guilty – even if she isn’t.
Summer makes the decision to try and flee Weatherfield due to the fact DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) begins to wonder if she murdered Theo Silverton (James Cartwright).
Prior to being questioned at the station, Summer’s caught in a difficult situation when George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) finds her journal. As he takes a look, he’s alarmed to find a page that describes putting a gun to Theo’s head.
‘I think she’s definitely panicked’, star Harriet Bibby said.
‘I mean everyone who was linked to Theo in any way isn’t thinking rationally at all right now. I think everyone is just trying to keep their head above water, stay out of suspicions way. Then with the discovery of this private journal that Summer scribbles her thoughts into, I think she is panicked because she knows that it looks really bad.
‘Whether she’s guilty or innocent, this journal is not a good thing for anybody else to see, because it does implicate her. So I think that she is scrambling and clutching at straws of how to get around this, to get around the fact that they found this journal containing her darkest thoughts.’
After a tense time at the station, Summer is put in the spotlight again when George quizzes her about Theo’s death. A flashback then reveals what George saw on the all-important night.
Summer is furious afterwards and wastes no time in suggesting that George killed Theo.
Things get even worse though, as George reveals to Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) that he’s told the police about Summer’s lies.
When Christina remarks that it’ll only be a matter of time before they come after her, Summer panics and heads out of the door.
She bumps into Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), who wonders where Summer is going with a bag in hand. She explains that she’s worried the police are going to arrest her for Theo’s murder, so she’s planning on returning to her university in America.

Summer intends to fly out that afternoon – but is she going to make her getaway?
Is Summer running away because she doesn’t want to go to prison as an innocent person, or is she trying to get away with murder?
‘There are a number of things that are stacking up against Summer and the story that she has told so far’, Harriet said.
‘When she knows that the police are potentially on her tail, I think she just isn’t thinking logically and so decides that the best solution for that is for her to just run away. I think she needs to get out of the pressure cooker. Even without Theo’s murder, the last few years on the street have been horrible and traumatic for Summer.
