Coronation Street has revealed that there will be a surprise proposal in the storyline involving Theo Silverton and Todd Grimshaw. As Theo’s abuse of his partner worsens, one party is shocked by the other’s move.

Todd and Theo have been together for the last few months, but their romance has turned to horror after Theo’s true nature was slowly revealed, with the Weatherfield newcomer gradually exerting more coercive control over his partner.

Over the festive period, the relationship hit a new low after the couple got into a physical altercation, with Theo subsequently manipulating events to position himself as the victim. Fearing for his safety, Todd has retreated and had his confidence diminished.

On Christmas Day, Theo lost his temper after Todd was invited to an event, and lashed out at the thought of his partner finding somebody else attractive. He attempted to patch things up, but has done it in emotionally manipulative ways.

In scenes set to air on Wednesday (31 December), Todd’s close friend Billy Mayhew will pick up on some of the troubling aspects of the relationship, and he talks with Alya about Yasmeen’s abuse at the hands of Geoff.

Later on, Billy heads to The Rovers to meet Todd as well as George, Christina and Summer, with Theo set to arrive later. Todd is evidently nervous ahead of his partner’s arrival, but not for all of the same reasons as before.

As Theo turns up, Todd shocks the entire room and proposes to his partner, wanting to prove how committed they are to each other. With several people clocking on to the toxic nature of their relationship, will Todd manage to get out before he makes a big mistake?

While Theo will be left with a big decision, actor James Cartwright recently spoke about his character’s involvement in Corriedale, with the star teasing that the figure would continue to exploit and abuse Todd.

“I don’t want to give too much away, but I think he does some things that are out of character that will surprise people… and then other things that people will expect from him!” teased the actor.
