‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Actress Gives Health Update After Revealing New Diagnosis

While stopping by Good Morning America on Thursday, Jan. 8, the Grey’s Anatomy actress shared an update on her progress since being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease last year.
Noting that the condition is an auto-immune disease that can cause extreme fatigue, hair thinning and difficulty losing weight, Luddington, 42, told GMA hosts Lara Spencer and Sam Champion, “It’s a journey is what I’m finding out.”
Despite initially thinking she was going through perimenopause, Luddington ended up getting her thyroid tested, which ultimately led to her diagnosis.
“I got diagnosed in the spring and put on medication immediately,” she said during Thursday’s appearance, while adding, “It’s a journey because you have to figure out your medication.”
“I’m not quite back to normal yet,” Luddington continued. “Stress can give you a flare up so now I take a little bit better care of myself now that I have it.”
Spencer then pointed out “You’re on kind of a stressful show,” to which Luddington quipped back, “The show doesn’t help!”
Luddington has been playing Dr. Jo Wilson on Grey’s Anatomy since 2012, making her first appearance in Season 9 of the hit ABC medical drama.
Grey’s Anatomy is about to return to air following hiatus, airing Season 22 Episode 7 on ABC at 10 p.m. ET.
