Dangerous Becky darkens as Carla exposes the truth in Coronation Street

The more we see of back-from-the-dead Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) on Coronation Street, the more it becomes clear that this is a woman who will not give up on the idea of getting her family back.

Of course a major obstacle stands in her way – the fact that during the time she was supposed to be ‘dead’, her wife Lisa (Vicky Myers) has grieved for her and moved on and is now very happily in a relationship with Carla Connor (Alison King).

It’s a brave person indeed who would be prepared to take Carla Connor on, but Becky has shown she’s more than up for a fight when it comes to securing the affections of the lovely Lisa. And in upcoming episodes we start to see how far she’s prepared to go.

‘We’ll start to peel away the layers of Becky and who she is and what she’s actually capable of,’ Corrie producer Kate Brooks warned. ‘At the minute on screen, we’ve only really scratched the surface, but she is capable of many things.’

Becky has already raised the stakes in the love triangle by kissing Lisa at the Rovers’ Halloween party, following which Carla warned her off in no uncertain terms. In response, Becky taunted Carla by saying that Lisa was still in love with her and that she could see it in her eyes.

As Becky continues to rile Carla, the situation leads to Carla and Lisa arguing, with Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) questioning Lisa as to whether she still has feelings for Becky.

The last thing they need in this situation is for Becky to move in with them, but that’s exactly what happens when Becky claims she’s being spied on at her flat. We know that she’s supposed to be keeping her head down because there are some bad people who’d want her dead (again) – have they tracked her down?

Possibly, but even Lisa is a bit suspicious of Becky’s story and asks her if she’s telling the truth about being spied on. Of course, Becky insists that she is, and makes a great show of being offended that Lisa should be suspicious of her.

Carla is less easily convinced, and she has sound logical reasoning to back up her suspicion that Becky is just making things up to give her an excuse to move into the house, where she can cause maximum disruption between Lisa and Carla.

‘As Carla points out, if Becky really was in danger from these mysterious spies, would she really risk bringing them to the house where her own daughter lives?

She’s absolutely right, but she could be unwittingly putting herself in grave danger as Becky overhears her words – and plans her next move.

As Kate Brooks said, ‘What I like about [Becky] is she’s quite calculated and she ostensibly feels a bit cold and measured. I think, the more she behaves like this, the more we see Carla getting really wound up and riled, because Becky’s just so calm and cool and collected. But she will get ruffled at some point.
