Gail Platt was last seen on Coronation Street almost a year ago but the soap has shared a huge update on the cobbles legend with fans now predicting a sad twist

Coronation Street has issued a major Gail Platt update almost a year after her exit.

Gail (Helen Worth) made her debut on the ITV soap way back in 1974. As the unlucky-in-love mum-of-three, Gail went on to become one of the soap’s most iconic and beloved characters.

She also played a part in several big storylines over the years. From drama with her children David (Jack P. Shepherd) and Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and Nick Tisley (Ben Price) to shock murders and affairs, Gail’s time in Weatherfield has not been short of drama.

However, in June last year, it was announced that Helen was leaving the soap – with Helen, saying she felt like it was the “perfect time” to leave “the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world”.

Gail’s exit storyline was set against her marriage to Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson). And on Christmas Day 2024, Gail said her goodbyes to the cobbles in an emotional hour-long episode after she and Jesse headed off abroad to France to start their new life.

Since then, Gail has been mentioned a few times – with David even visiting her earlier this year. And in Monday’s instalment (November 3) the soap shared an update on Gail – but fans have predicted a heartbreaking twist ahead.

During the episode, newcomer Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) was added to the street group chat – but it seems she wasn’t a fan. With her phone pinging, Maggie declared: “Why does every single person feel the need to say ‘welcome?!’”

She then added: “This Gail one is a nuisance an’ all. Which one is she?” Eva then explained to Maggie that Gail had moved to France.

And in a heartbreaking blow to Gail, a savage Maggie quipped: “Then she has no business being on this forum, and I shall tell her so!”

However, following the Gail mention, fans can’t help but think a tragic twist is looming. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person said: “Not Maggie kicking Gail off the street group chat…”

Someone else then mused: “Something bad is going to happen to Gail now she’s been kicked off the chat you watch!” A third put forward a wild theory involving Gail and her new husband Jesse.

They wrote: “Hmmm is she still messaging because she’s in danger? Is she ok? Is Jesse keeping her hostage?!” Another agreed: “Anything can happen and I’ve always thought Jesse was dodgy.”
