“Am I set for life?”: Even $200,000 per Episode Blue Bloods Salary Couldn’t Convince Tom Selleck That He’s Financially Stable

Even after making hundreds of thousands of dollars in Blue Bloods, Tom Selleck was not satisfied with his financial condition. The actor played the role of NYC Police Commissioner Frank Reagan for all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods, a police procedural drama that came to an end on December 13, 2024.
Throughout the years, Selleck reportedly made $200,000 per episode for the series, bringing his total to a whopping $5 million per season. Thanks to his Blue Bloods earnings and other projects, the renowned actor is reported to have a net worth of $20 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Adding to his net worth, Selleck purchased a home in Hawaii back in 1993 for an undisclosed amount. He lived there for years before finally selling it for a reported $2.48 million. In 1998, though, Selleck had purchased a 63-acre ranch near Westlake Village for $5 million.Hidden away in the Ventura County mountains, the property consists of a Spanish colonial-style main house, a guest house, an underground pool, hiking trails, a private helipad, a chicken coop, and so much more.
It is because of this property that he believes he’s not financially stable despite having made $200,000 per episode for Blue Bloods.

Talking to CBS News in May 2024, Tom Selleck admitted that he spends most of his non-working days on the ranch, something which he hopes to hold onto forever, no matter how hard he has to work to do so.
He stated, “You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold onto the place.” When asked, “Seriously, that’s an issue? If you stopped working?“, Selleck replied with complete honesty.
That’s always an issue. If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!
Selleck may claim that he doesn’t have enough to keep the ranch up and running, but an insider told Closer Weekly that CBS higher-ups are not buying his “pleas of poverty.” They said,
“Despite Selleck’s pleas of poverty, CBS higher-ups aren’t buying it, armed with knowledge of his jaw-dropping paycheck over the years. He raked in a staggering $200,000 per episode, accumulating a jaw-dropping $56 million over the show’s run — and that’s not even factoring in residuals from reruns!“
Frustrated by Selleck’s comments, a source called him an “entitled brat” as hundreds of people faced unemployment after the end of Blue Bloods, those who truly make less than $100K to make ends meet. They said, “Most of them will struggle to make ends meet, while Tom complains about the upkeep of his lavish 63-acre ranch. Give me a break!” Clearly, people seem to be upset with the FRIENDS actor.

Tom Selleck began his acting career in 1969 with roles in Lancer and Judd for the Defence. He later gained recognition for playing Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. Needless to say, Selleck has been working for a long, long time, and it doesn’t look like he is willing to stop anytime soon.
Continuing his conversation with CBS News’s Tracy Smith, the actor opened up about what he sees himself doing down the road, and his answer was simple enough. He said,
Hopefully, work. As an actor, you never lose – I don’t lose, anyway – that sense that every time I finish a job, it’s my last job. I like the fact that there’s no excuses. You just go to work and you do the work. And I have a lot of reverence for what I call ‘the work,’ and I love it. And I’d like to keep doing it.
Even when Blue Bloods‘ spin-off, Boston Blue, was announced, reports claimed that Selleck was furious over being left out of the team. A source told Radar Online earlier this year that Selleck was “furiously demanding” a role in the series, adding, “That spin-off deal blindsided him and really got TV gigs, cameos, even commercials – anything that will put him back in front of the camera.“
Apparently, Selleck’s hunger for work even upset his wife, Jillie Mack. The insider claimed that the actor promised her he would “take it easier after he turned 80“, but he’s clearly not showing any signs of slowing down.
The source added, “No one’s going to force Tom into retirement. He’s stubborn as a mule and has his mind set to keep going – even if it kills him.“
It’s true. Selleck recently signed on with United Talent Agency as the next step in his career, according to Deadline. His IMDb page states that he is currently working on an untitled Jesse Stone project, which is listed as “in development“. The plot is currently unknown. Selleck plays the role of a troubled small-town police chief, Jesse Stone, in the namesake franchise, which already has nine television films.
