“By the time I was 28 and we were dating, I wasn’t a child anymore and she was a person. And a lovely, wonderful person if I can add,” he revealed. “We dated for a little bit and she was obviously doing the show Charmed and she asked me to be on it. I ended up doing like 10 episodes.”

The actor the alluded to the fact that his time on the show got cut because the two broke up.

The actor would be on the hit show for six seasons before his character tragically died from wounds sustained in a plane crash. Though the show was a career high, Dane revealed he was struggling with alcohol and painkiller addiction at same time.

Going into the show, he said on Armchair Expert, he was able to keep his relationship to alcohol under control: “I had my wits about me and I sort of knew what reality was and what reality wasn’t, and I was able to differentiate between the two, and I was able to sort of conceptualize what that was, keep it in its place, enjoy it, dip in every now and again and come back.”

But that eventually changed, he said: “If you take the whole eight years on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ I was f—– up longer than I was sober, and that’s when things started going sideways for me. [The attention] was overwhelming, and I think I just wanted to pretend that it wasn’t and that I was comfortable with it. Act like you’ve been there, but you haven’t been there.”

So often, it takes all this time for these people to be diagnosed, well, then it precludes them from being a part of these clinical trials.”

“I have two daughters at home. I want to see them, you know, graduate college, and get married and maybe have grandkids. You know, I want to be there for all that. So I’m going to fight to the last breath on this one,” the actor said.
