Marisa Ramirez’s Blue Bloods character is headed back to Boston Blue, and this time, it’s not just to go on a date with her long-distance boyfriend Det. Danny Reagan.
The spinoff’s premiere revealed that Danny and his former NYPD partner Det. Maria Baez followed through on that pizza date that was mentioned in the Blue Bloods series finale. In fact, when Danny got a call that his son Sean — now a rookie Boston PD cop — was in the hospital, he was sharing an intimate evening in with Maria. Now in full coupledom, Danny and Maria have been dealt a new complication: how to navigate a long-distance relationship following his decision to stay in Boston to be close to his son. When Soaps.com spoke with Boston Blue co-showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, they assured us that Danny and Maria’s romance is far from doomed despite the many miles that separate them.
“It’s not that long a drive [between New York and Boston]. It’s an even shorter plane ride, if that’s how you want to get there,” Margolis noted, adding that the series debut would not be the last time viewers were going to see Maria.
As promised, Danny’s girlfriend made the trip to Boston at the end of last Friday’s episode to spend a weekend with her beau — and she’s not done paying a visit to the offshoot! Ramirez is set to next appear in the Nov. 21 episode, titled “Code of Ethics,” but it’s more than just love that will be on Maria’s mind this time around. She’ll provide an assist to Danny and his new partner, Lena, as they hunt down a serial home invader, the official description reveals. Get a first look at the episode below:

While Danny and Maria are currently blissfully happy, “there are certainly challenges to every relationship, but especially an adult relationship in which these are fully formed adults,” Sonnier previously told Soaps.com. “You know, Baez has a daughter, Danny’s got his sons. They’re in different cities. They have their work schedules, life schedules. Certainly, things happen, but that’s the work and, as I see it, the fun of any relationship.”
Boston Blue airs Fridays at 10/9c on CBS.
