The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.

Emmerdale’s drug dealing storylinecontinues to get more terrifying for Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) and April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) in Monday (November 3)’s episode.

We previously saw April go to a meeting with a client where she was under orders to do everything that was asked of her. April was under no illusion that this meant agreeing to sex with the man, but when the moment arrived she was terrified and didn’t want to go through with it.

The man then made it clear that it didn’t really matter what she wanted – he would do as he pleased with her. In an effort to escape, April wielded a bottle at him – and ended up killing him.

Celia (Jaye Griffiths) ordered Ray (Joe Absolom) to dispose of the body, but April has been left absolutely traumatised by what happened and has nobody she can trust to support her.

Her boyfriend Dylan has been missing for a while, and April’s worries about what could be happening to him have meant that Celia and Ray have had an even tighter hold over her.

In this episode, Dylan finally reappeared and his explanation for what had been happening to him was shocking. Showing April that his body is covered in bruises, he described how he’d been savagely beaten up – but not before he’d been forced to watch another boy being beaten up almost to the point of death first.

Dylan had taken a large amount of money that belonged to Ray, and planned to use it so that he and April could get away from the village and escape the clutches of the drug bosses, but he’d now found out exactly how brutal they could be when they were crossed.

After he’d told April what happened he could sense that something else was wrong with her, but she apparently felt she couldn’t add to his troubles by telling him that she’d killed someone, so she passed her upset off as being on his behalf.

It was all far too much for April, and when Ray summoned her to meet him later she told him she couldn’t cope. Every time she closed her eyes she saw the face of the man she’d killed, she told him. She felt the only choice she had was to turn herself in to the police.

Obviously if she did that, Celia and Ray’s little empire would soon be under threat, so Ray wasn’t going to allow that to happen. When we first saw Ray he kept Dylan and to a lesser extent April under his control by pretending he was on their side, but that veneer has totally vanished now.

Ray revealed he had a gun. ‘It’s a warning this time,’ he said. ‘Next time I’ll have no choice but to shut you up for good.’

April has been left incredibly lonely and isolated, and Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon, told us that things are going to get even worse, culminating in a dramatic development in a special episode.

‘I can tease it by saying things are going to get considerably worse before they get better and in this special episode, something happens that when I read it, it shocked me so much that I thought “Oh god, I wish I’d known about it before I read it,” because it really threw me, it’s just a great twist of drama.’
