Is Sandra Oh returning to Grey’s Anatomy? Fans think so!

On X, eagle-eyed fans noticed that the show’s official Instagram account just started following the actress for the first time. Oh played Dr. Cristina Yang on the series from 2005 to 2014, departing after the season 10 finale.

Adding fuel to the fire, fans also realized the Grey’s X account posted a collage of pictures from season 10 on Oct. 14 with the caption, “Thinking about season 10 for one reason in particular.”

In the replies, fans were excited at the possibility of Oh returning.

“Please Cristina make a comeback pleaseeee we need something to save this show,” wrote one fan. “They know exactly how to pull me back in.” commented another.

“If she comes back, I think it’s definitely the final season,” added a third.

Others speculated reasons for Cristina’s potential return, with some theorizing it could be related to her ex-husband Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd). As of the latest episode, Hunt is in the process of divorcing his current wife Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver).

Another guess was that Cristina could finally be receiving the Catherine Fox Award, a prestigious surgical award given to doctors in the Grey’s universe.

In June, Oh was asked about the possibility of reprising her role during The New York Times’ The Interview live event.

“What I have noticed, this is 10 years out from leaving the show, is the deep appreciation that I have for the people who appreciate Cristina,” Oh said at the time. “It is that love that has made me go, ‘Oh. The fans really, really, really want it,’ and for the first time, that’s when I started opening up the idea.”

She continued, “But for me, I think to really be true to the people who enjoy your work, you have to be true to yourself. So at this point, I don’t think so.”

Oh’s character departed the series after accepting a position as head of cardiothoracic surgery at a hospital in Zurich, Switzerland. Since then, Cristina has been referenced several times — most often through her text exchanges with Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) — but she hasn’t physically appeared on the show since her exit.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on ABC. Episodes are available to stream the next day on Hulu.
