Coronation Street’s Daniel Brocklebank reveals next role as huge exit approaches
Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has landed a brand new role ahead of his big exit from the soap. Rather than the cobbled streets of Weatherfield, the actor will now be setting foot on the stage.
Brocklebank, who portrays vicar and archdeacon Billy Mayhew, announced in May that he would be departing the ITV soap in 2026, bringing an end to his 12-year stint as the beloved character.
Though his exit hasn’t aired yet, the star has already lined up a new role, with the actor set to appear in a production of Young Frankenstein The Musical at Liverpool Playhouse over the festive season.

The stage show, an adaptation of Mel Brooks’s 1974 film Young Frankenstein, follows Dr Frederick Frankenstein – a descendant of the infamous Victor – as he follows in his grandfather’s footsteps by creating a monster.
Brocklebank will assume the central role of Frederick, with the actor being joined by Amelia Adams, Jessica Martin and Pete Gallagher as The Monster. Performances begin on 3 December, running for five weeks until 3 January 2026.

“Young Frankenstein The Musical tells the story of the grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein, who inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania,” reads the logline.
“With the help of [sidekicks], Inga, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. ‘It’s alive!’ he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.”
Brocklebank, who has also appeared in Emmerdale, previously teased his latest role when speaking to Digital Spy at the Inside Soap Awards earlier this month, sharing: “I’m going straight into something that’s really left-field from Corrie – comedy, a musical.

“I think I might even be doing a bit of tap-dancing, which Billy never did! He took heroin, he never tap-danced! So I’m hugely excited to get back out there into the world and see what’s going on, I can’t wait.”
While the actor is preparing for his big role on the stage, there is the small matter of Billy’s exit storyline, though the star refused to share all the details as he teased: “Of course I’m not going to tell you that, but yes I do know. I am [happy with it]. I think it’s befitting.”
