Holly calls Tate from the high school college while he’s picking up books to tell him about Rachel. He calls his dad right away, while Johnny runs into Holly before film class. There’s some awkward, “I was obsessed with you, oops” stuff, but they move on.

Johnny’s super nervous to teach for the first time, but Holly reminds him of the movies they watched and how much he shared when their parents were married. (That feels like ages ago…) He’s always been teaching. By the time class starts, still no Tate.

In the bookstore, Sophia stares wide-eyed at Tate as they sit in oversized leather armchairs.

Sophia, meanwhile, shows up at the bookstore, so Tate jumps right into his plan, apologizing for getting upset with her constant lying, then pumping her for info about the adoptive parents. That… does not work. Sophia makes up a couple names, but that’s all she can come up with, despite having months at this point to make up a backstory for them. Amateur.

So Tate yells some more about her lying and being shady. That actually kind of works because as Sophia tries to defend herself, she almost lets slip what actually happened!

Rachel’s Missing Again!

Brady calls Steve to fill him in on his new theory thanks to an oblivious Tate: The firehouse baby is Sophia’s. Steve agrees it’s time to look into it. But then Brady gets Tate’s call, phones the school to yell at them for not keeping track of Rachel, and FLIPS out when they admit they can’t find her again. Oops.

In the prison visitor's room Kristen wraps her arms around Rachel who stares coldly

Rachel, meanwhile, drops into prison, much to Kristen’s shock. Which is, in itself, shocking, since Rachel’s been doing this for years. And, in fact, she got there the exact same way as before, from the rideshare to conning the guards!

Rachel just wants to apologize, but Kristen insists she’s there because of what she did, and says it’s all going to be OK — just before Brady shows up. The warden called him after Kristen snitched, which sets Rachel off to yell at Brady and refuse to leave her mom’s side. Kristen finally gets through to her daughter enough to send her home — so long as dad promises she can visit.

In the prison visitor's room, Brady emphatically makes a point to Rachel

Kristen’s sure he will. That gets a face from Brady.

What Happened to Javi’s Daughter?

Back at the Hernandez house, Javi breaks into tears as he tells Leo that he had a daughter, who died. “I am so sorry,” a crestfallen Leo replies, promising Javi doesn’t have to talk about it. But it’s time.

Years back, Javi tried forcing himself to date a girl, Sylvia, to appease his mom. It was rocky, but they had a daughter, Solana, a few years ago and… He starts crying and says he failed to keep her safe. He was hungover one morning and Sylvia offered to take their baby to daycare, but she forgot Solana in the car when she got to work. It was a hot Texas day and by the time she remembered, it was too late.

Embracing Javi, Leo stares over his shoulder with wide eyes and a concerned expression.

Leo tries reassuring Javi that it was not his fault, but Javi can’t seem to believe it. It was after seeing the paramedics try to save their child that Javi decided to become one and help others — which we know led to more trauma, oof. And now… losing Tesoro feels like losing Solana all over again. Leo just reassures Javi again that what happened wasn’t his fault. And besides, he wouldn’t be able to pass a background check either to keep Tesoro. Valid.

Steve Needs Rafe’s Help

Steve calls Rafe to his office and asks for a favor involving baby Tesoro. Steve tries laying things out discretely about the baby’s possible father, but Rafe knows right away who he’s talking about: Tate Black.

Steve crosses his arms while sitting across his office desk from Rafe

After hearing his logic, Steve admits he’s right. Tate doesn’t know anything about it, but he and Brady think it’s his. Steve explains why, and Rafe agrees it seems very suspicious — but not certain. Fair enough, Steve admits, but all the angles work out, so it’s time to saddle up: Rafe needs to get some DNA from Tesoro! Done and done.

In the Show’s Final Moments

Brady promises to talk about visiting mom, then shoves his phone in Rachel’s hand to call grandma Marlena, let her know she’s OK and apologize for worrying people. He yells at Kristen a bit, as he tends to do, then storms out.

Rafe gets home to find Javi told Leo about Solana. He’s glad Javi has Leo through this all, then agrees to watch Tesoro while the guys head out, which is perfect timing! So Rafe pulls out an absolutely massive swab for the poor baby. He couldn’t just grab some hair??

In the Hernandez kitchen, Rafe holds a swab over Tesoro's stroller

Holly and Johnny reconvene after class, mystified about Tate missing. She thinks something’s going on with Rachel, though, and runs off to find out more. Sophia looks like a deer in headlights as Tate tries to get her to keep talking, promising not to be angry. It doesn’t work, she’s in too deep! Still, he keeps promising not to judge her as Holly walks in to find them.
