Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle is caught in her own web of lies next week, when Jacob Gallagher learns that she’s fibbed about her next baby scan. Feeling the pressure more than ever, Charity blurts out to her granddaughter Sarah Sugden that her appointment scheduled for that day has been cancelled.

But when Jacob later spies Charity from the end of the hospital corridor, is the game up?

“Charity should know better than to lie about hospital visits when Jacob is there day in, day out,” our Emmerdale source says. “It’s obvious that the further the pregnancy goes along, the more Charity’s finding her guilt too much to bear.

“And now Jacob has seen her at the hospital, she’s going to need to come up with an explanation pronto. But even if she manages to conjure one, there’s no guaranteeing that Jacob will believe her…”

The week kicks off with Charity stressing over whether her next pregnancy scan will show that the baby she is carrying isn’t Sarah and Jacob’s embryo.

Chas Dingle causes her cousin to worry even more, before Charity then returns home to Jacob and Sarah chatting about babies that resemble their fathers.

Pushed to her limit, Charity snaps at the pair, but eventually gets her temper under control and offers an apology.

The next day, Chas is suspicious when Charity tells Sarah that her scan has been cancelled at the last minute. In the Woolie back room, Chas directly confronts Charity about her caginess, which forces her to admit that she’s terrified about what the ultrasound might reveal.

“Chas comes along to the hospital for support,” our spy explains. “But as the two ladies wait for the appointment, Charity is still beside herself with fear.

“Seeing another scan of the baby is emotional enough, without the trepidation that her secret could be outed in a matter of moments…”

During the appointment, Charity and Chas are flooded with relief as it becomes clear that the sonographer has failed to spot anything unusual about the pregnancy.

But in the moments afterwards, Charity stares fondly at the ultrasound image that she has been given, which captures Chas’s attention. Will she question Charity about her emotions – or let her enjoy a moment of peace?

It seems as though Charity has successfully sold her latest lie, until Jacob catches sight of her at the hospital. Can Charity muster up the strength to cover her tracks? Or will she finally crack under the pressure?
