Fan-favorite Grey’s Anatomy character Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) is returning to Seattle’s Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Jackson, who moved to Boston during the show’s 17th season, visits Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), in Season 22, Episode 4 (“Goodbye Horses”), which premieres on October 30. The upcoming episode’s promo, released on October 23, features a frustrated Jackson speaking to Meredith about researching Alzheimer’s Disease.

Williams joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy during the show’s sixth season, which premiered in 2009, as reported by IMDb. He continued being a series regular until the Season 17 finale. Following Jackson’s departure from Seattle, Williams was featured in Season 18, Episode 20, Season 19, Episode 5, and Season 21, Episode 1, per IMDb.
Jesse Williams Teased a Return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
In an exclusive interview with Parade in September 2025, at the premiere of his Amazon Prime series, Hotel Costiera, Williams said it was in the realm of possibility that he would make a Grey’s Anatomy comeback.
“It’s possible…Anything is possible,” said Williams to Parade.
He clarified his priority is the launch of Hotel Costiera, wherein he stars as the character De Luca and is an executive producer.
“Right now, I’m definitely focused on launching this show and this project, and being a producer on this show. Similarly, you’re wearing a lot of hats in responsible for a lot of what’s pulled together and casting and costumes and the wardrobe and everything, and to see it through and get to this point in time, right now, to days away from launch, it’s a pretty good feeling,” said Williams while speaking to Parade.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, Williams shared his thoughts about Grey’s Anatomy’s long-lasting success. He said the ABC medical drama, which premiered in 2005, “really continues to have a really remarkable emotional, intellectual impact on people all over the globe.”
He then shared that he interacted with Grey’s Anatomy fans while in Italy filming Hotel Costiera.
“We shot that whole thing in Italy and Grey’s is a monstrosity over there. You know, everywhere I travel, people have been moved,” said the 44-year-old during the Entertainment Tonight interview. “And they tell you specific scenes, specific dynamics, characters they’re in love with. You got 12 year olds and 72 year olds that are just cycling through watching it five times over and over again.”
