BETTENDORF, Iowa — From the halls of Bettendorf High School to the fictitious rooms of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, a Bettendorf graduate is living her teenage dream.

Ashlyn Schmidt graduated in 2022. Now, she’s working alongside the cast of ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” She has been cast as one of surgical resident Simone Griffith’s interns and is featured in the most recent episodes of Season 22. The new season began earlier this month.

“Growing up, Ashlyn was a huge fan of the show,” Bettendorf Community School District said in a Facebook post. “She, her cousin, friends, and sister would film their own versions of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ complete with scrubs and dramatic scenes. Now, just a few years later, she’s standing on the real set, working alongside the actors who inspired her in the first place.”

It’s a full circle moment for Schmidt, the district said. She was also just featured in the Season 22, Episode 3 preview, which you can watch here.

The popular medical drama has been airing since 2005.
