Kevin Costner Reportedly Exuded “Diva-Like” Behavior on ‘Yellowstone’ Set Amid Feud With Wes Bentley

  • Yellowstone’s fifth and (allegedly) final season aired in December 2024, with Kevin Costner’s time ending on the show.
  • There’s still drama unfolding from Kevin’s final moments on the show, including a reported “physical” altercation with his co-star, Wes Bentley.
  • A new report has surfaced, detailing Kevin’s alleged “diva-like” behavior on set

Yellowstone may have ended last December, but the Paramount Network series is reportedly still bringing on some drama in the aftermath. Sources have come out of the woodwork with new details about the show’s lead and executive producer, Kevin Costner, and his “diva-like” behavior on set, in a new hit piece from The Hollywood Reporter.

One of the bombshells from the report includes a “physical” altercation between Kevin and his co-star, Wes Bentley, which left their castmate Kelly Reilly “in tears” after they disagreed on which direction to take a “tense” scene.

Kevin was allegedly “pushing” Wes to ignore writer and director Taylor Sheridan’s script and improvise the scene. Per THR, Wes (who played Kevin’s on-screen son) “told Costner that he had signed up for a Taylor Sheridan show, not a Kevin Costner production.”

“Kevin didn’t like that, and he lunged at him,” an on-set source said of the fight. “No fists were thrown, but they were in each other’s faces, pushing and shoving and just getting hot until they had to be separated.”

Another insider doubled down and told the outlet, “The incident with Wes was the line in the sand. Everything was different after that.”

They continued, “Everyone loved Wes and so that really made Taylor upset. Kevin and Taylor butted heads from there on out. It got very awkward.” A rep for Wes even confirmed the fight with THR, calling it a “work-related argument during an emotional and physically tough scene,” that has since been “discussed and resolved.”

Before Kevin’s departure from Yellowstone, he opened up about his filming schedule for the Horizon: An American Saga film series, which overlapped with the show’s production. “Horizon was set in the middle, but Yellowstone was first position. I fit [Horizon] into the gaps. They just kept moving their gaps,” he told Deadline in May 2024.

Just a month later, he told fans that—come the end of season 5—he would no longer be playing the role of John Dutton. “I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue season 5B [of Yellowstone] into the future,” Kevin said, in part, during his Instagram announcement.

“It was something that really changed. I loved it, and I know you loved it,” he continued. “I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning and I love the relationship we’ve been able to develop. I’ll see you at the movies.”

His reps haven’t commented on the alleged altercation with Wes yet.
