Coronation Street has aired a major twist amid the latest whodunnit plot and one character has told a huge lie that could be the downfall of everything.
Following a controversial flashforward that all led to a Murder Week, in which the same day was repeated over and over again, the abusive Theo Silverton was one of five potential villains set to be killed off and, in the end, he did not make it out alive, having been found dead at the bottom of some scaffolding.
Now, the programme, which has been through numerous radical changes in recent years and begun to rely on a slew of crime stories, has started up a whodunnit plot to explore who is actually responsible for the killing of Theo.
Bosses of the programme recently released an official lineup of suspects, which included George Shuttleworth, Theo’s partner Todd Grimshaw, Todd’s daughter Summer Spellman, Theo’s former colleague Gary Windass and Theo’s ex-wife Danielle Silverton.
On the night of the murder, Gary (Mikey North), already angry with Theo for the way in which he had abused Todd, took it upon himself to smash up the scaffolder’s van.
He was taken in for questioning by DS Lisa Swain, who sat with her arms folded and looked down her nose at Gary as she demanded CCTV from the builder’s yard, which, viewers will know, has been deleted.

Gary had meant to be meeting wife Maria (Samia Longchambon) at the Bistro for a romantic lunch, and she was surprised to see Swain, who has a history of locking innocent people up, saunter into the restaurant and demand that she also come in for questioning.
Just as it looked as all hope was lost, DC Kit Green came to tell Gary that he could go home, as Maria had told the police that she and Gary had snuck away at the time of the meeting to have sex.
He was relieved, but Maria’s claims turned out to be totally false as he appeared in the background of a selfie taken by Sally and Tim, and the timestamp of 22:02 confirmed that he and Maria could not possibly have been together at the time of the murder.
Gary, who has always claimed to be innocent to Maria, told her: “It’s perverting the course of justice. If you end up in the slammer, I’d never forgive myself, and she replied: “Well, if you were telling me the truth about what happened that night, then there won’t be a problem.” Gary said: ” Look, like I said, I was here, and I left at quarter past ten. OK?”
Reacting to Maria’s lie and the suspicious revelation of the phtograph, one fan wrote on X: “Maria knew Gary was hiding something, good thing he told her about Theo’s van and the deleted CCTV footage.”
Another said: “Maria pulled the sex lie to save Gary there. Smart thinking on her part in my opinion!” A third wrote: “Gary deleting the footage will definitely come to regret later on. What’s the chances on the sledgehammer Gary used to smash the van’s windscreen is the murder weapon? It hasn’t been confirmed exactly how Theo died but he definitely had a head wound.”
A fourth wrote: “Oh dear, Gary. Is that you coming round the side of Dev’s shop at 10.02pm on the night of the murder? Yes. Yes, it is. I’m sure he was just checking on the scaffolding!”
