Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Jonathan teased it will come as a big surprise for fans when they find out who killed Theo. While giving nothing away, he promised it would be rather unexpected amid fans already sharing their theories online.

He told us: “From what I have seen and read, fans are not going to expect to find out who the killer is. They will be surprised who actually does the deed.”

So does this rule out certain characters as the killer? Could the “obvious” suspects such as Theo’s partner Todd, or Summer, be ruled out?

Fans will just have to wait and see, with more to be revealed about the killer very soon. It comes as The Mirror asked Theo actor James Cartwright about a possible exit.

We of course knew at the time Theo leaving, but due to strict embargoes James wasn’t able to address it directly. Instead, we quizzed James on how he would feel if he was to leave, and if Theo was to meet a grim end.

He told us: “He’s running out of road. He’s like a cornered dog. There’s no other option at this point, he’s cornered. Serves him right, he’s been bloody horrible.

“When residents of Weatherfield decide you’ve gotta go, you’ve gotta go. Something needs to happen to him. He can’t go on like that, we need justice. Soap is a very moral medium.

“We want our underdogs to triumph and our baddies to meet their end. Being part of the show and the way we have, in terms of the arc Theo has been on, has been one of the great joys and privileges of my life.

“There is the knowledge that sooner or later he will meet his end and then there’s great satisfaction. It’s been a real privilege. There’s been so much in it, it’s been scary at times but I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Viewers will see the fallout to murder week next week, as the police begin their investigation.
