Kevin Costner ‘bags role’ in new political thriller worlds away from Yellowstone

A political drama, produced in partnership with the United Nations, is currently being developed with a Yellowstone actor set to star.

United, an upcoming series focusing on a UN mission to East Timor in 1999, is in its early stages of development with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kevin Costner both signed on as executive producers.

While the Wolf of Wall Street star is expected to remain behind the scenes, it’s speculated that Costner might portray former US President Bill Clinton.

The series, United, is anticipated to center around the 1999 uprising in East Timor, which occurred during a UN-organized independence referendum in the region. It comes after Costner made a dig at a show he once starred in.

President Clinton played a pivotal role in defusing the situation, coordinating with leaders from UN-affiliated countries to ensure a peaceful resolution.

Actor Kevin Costner starred as John Dutton in the award-winning drama Yellowstone.

This wouldn’t be Costner’s first time portraying a historical figure; he previously played law enforcement agent Eliot Ness in The Untouchables and Old West lawman in 1994’s Wyatt Earp.

He also portrayed Jim Garrison, the district attorney investigating JFK’s assassination, in the 1991 film JFK.

However, Costner is perhaps best known for his role as John Dutton, the patriarch of the Dutton family in the unforgettable Western drama Yellowstone.

Since departing from the Yellowstone universe midway through the final fifth season, Costner has been busy directing, co-writing, producing, and starring in Horizon: An American Saga.

Actor Chukwudi Iwuji is set to play UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

Actor Chukwudi Iwuji, known for his roles in When They See Us, Designated Survivor, Evil and The Day of the Jackal, is reportedly set to star alongside Kevin Costner in United, portraying UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.

BBC viewers might recognize Iwuji as Zander Hale from the Nicola Walker drama The Split, where he appeared throughout all three seasons.
