Coronation Street has aired a major cliffhanger as Carla Connor managed to overpower her kidnapper Becky Swain. Since her arrival on the cobbles, the villainous Becky has been trying to come between Carla and her fiancée Lisa Swain.

Becky’s scheming seemed to work and the couple split up back in November, with Becky moving in with Lisa and Betsy.

Carla appeared to leave the cobbles to take a planned trip to Lanzarote, where she has been sending messages to Lisa and posting on social media, appearing to have the trip of a lifetime.

In the soap’s Christmas Eve episode, it was finally confirmed that Carla wasn’t in Spain after all and had been kidnapped by Becky, who is desperate to move her family out of Weatherfield.

After Becky managed to seduce Lisa, Lisa realised her mistake and messaged Carla, saying she would do anything to get her back.

When Lisa received a message of rejection in response, the sender was revealed to be Becky and Carla was seen gagged and trapped in a closet in Becky’s flat.

In tonight’s episode, a bound Carla begged Becky to give her her medication while Becky taunted Carla about sharing a bottle of wine with Lisa the night before.

“If you’re so sure she wants you, why’d you have to hog-tie the competition?” Carla asked a furious Becky, who threw a plate at her, gagged her again and left her in the closet.

Later that evening, Carla struggled to get free, but she found a piece of the broken plate to cut herself loose with.

Elsewhere, a suspicious Kit questioned Betsy, asking if she had heard from Carla, with Betsy saying she was checked in at the “Rhubarb Hill” hotel.

After Kit called the hotel asking to be put through to Carla’s room, the hotel said she wasn’t in her room and Kit tried to trick them by saying Carla was blonde. When the hotel corrected him, saying she had dark hair, Kit told Sarah that it “checked out”.

As Becky returned to her flat, she was heard on the phone speaking to an unknown person, who had taken the phone call from Kit. “Sounds like he took the bait,” she said, adding: “We need everyone to believe that hotel exists.”

Unaware that Carla had broken free, Becky unlocked the closet and Carla burst out and screamed at Becky. She pushed her over and Becky hit the back of her head on a table, which knocked her unconscious.

Will Carla make it out of the flat? Or will Becky regain consciousness and trap her again?
